A lot of people love riding in a motorcycle compared to a car because it feels like flying. Cars maybe luxurious and more comfortable yet it feels like being imprisoned within a machine. But the advantage that it has over motorcycle is in terms of safety. Motorcycle is more prone to accidents because of its size. Because of these wearing a motorcycle helmet has become a mandatory element to be safe. To learn more about helmets, here are the lists of things that we can see if we cut a section of a Full Face helmet:
Outer Shell. Made of either Fiberglass, or a Polycarbonate mixture or specially formulated plastics while expensive models are made Carbon fibers or other very strong light weight materials. It shapes the helmet and provides protection against objects penetrating the helmet.
Safety Liner. Also called “cushion” layer. It is about one inch thick and is made out of expanded Polystyrene or similar synthetic foam material. Safety liner absorbs impact energy in case of a collision.
Inner Liner. Also called comfort liner. It is composed of a moisture absorbing antibacterial fabric and stuffed with soft thin foam to provide comfort. This is the part that is in contact with your skin at all times, so it should breathe well. In some models of helmet, the inner liner is removable so it can be washed.
Chin Strap. This is made out of a very strong fabric and serves as the helmet’s locking device so it does not fly off or falls off the rider’s head especially during impact.
Face Shield. Face shield pivots up and down and has a locking system so the wind cannot slams it open at high speeds. Choose a good quality, optically correct face shield so your vision does not get tired. There are tinted for bright sunny days and clear for all seasons.
